What Is Eructation?

Eructation (which is also referred to as burping or belching) is the gas that is in the stomach that has been pushed out through the mouth. It is a normal digestive process and it is supposed to be considered normal, but when it occurs frequently it could be an indicator that there is a problem.

Common Causes and Triggers

  • Eating too much food too quickly or eating more and more that increases the amount of air that an individual has to swallow.
  • The use of carbonated beverages (soda, beer, sparkling water).
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or acid reflux.
  • One of them is hiatal hernia with a bulging belly in the chest.
  • Food intolerances - food (lactose, fructose) and food with high fiber content.
  • Stress or anxiety that leads to the aerophagia.
  • A few medications that retard the digestive system or weaken the esophageal valve.
  • Smoking or chewing gum, which makes one take in more air.
  • Spicy or hot foods and hot or hot weather in Houston which can cause reflux to rise.

Signs and Symptoms

  • Burgering most of the day, high-pitched.
  • Aches in the chest or throat.
  • Following meals, being too full or bloated.
  • Mild to the moderate pains or discomfort of the abdomen.
  • Bad or bitter in the mouth refluxed acid.

How Dr. Rishi Diagnoses Eructation?

Dr. Rishi uses a step-by-step approach:

Medical History and Physical Exam

He looks at your digestion state, diet, stress, and lifestyle (e.g. smoking, drugs, soft drinks).

Upper Endoscopy

The esophagus, stomach and duodenum are examined through a thin and flexible tube to identify any inflammation, hiatal hernia or another abnormality.

pH Monitoring

A small probe does the counting of the exposure of acid in your esophagus over a time of 24 hours to confirm or rule out GERD.

Imaging Studies

  • The ultrasound of the Abdomen analyses the gallbladder and liver, and the problems of the biliary tract.
  • Diagnosis of hiatal hernia in the case of structural phobias.

Breath Tests

Also tested is H. pylori infection or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) that can increase the amount of gas.
