Whether you have HealthSpring Advantage or Original Medicare with a Supplement, the next benefit question follows the service the clinician is recommending.
From the first conversation to the next step in care: the GastroDoxs GutDefense Pathway™.
A consultation, screening discussion and diagnostic procedure are different services. Tell the clinician the relevant history, then ask the current medical plan how the proposed care is covered. Keep the physician, facility and associated charges visible in the conversation.
Work through the questions in the right order
Advantage members need the plan-specific answer
Ask about network participation, specialist benefits and any required referral or authorization. The fact that a clinician accepts Original Medicare does not alone establish participation in your Advantage product.
Supplement holders should keep Original Medicare in the picture
If you use Original Medicare and Medigap, explain both to the office. The supplemental policy’s role should be checked as part of that arrangement, not confused with an Advantage plan’s directory or specialist copay.
Existing approvals should be reviewed, not guessed about
HealthSpring’s transition guidance says Cigna Medicare approvals issued before 2026 remain effective until their expiration dates. Have the coordinating team confirm the service, provider, date and approval terms that actually apply to your request.
Coverage questions for the planned GI service
These questions do not establish eligibility, a preventive benefit or an individual cost.
Care or question
What to ask your plan
What to confirm with the office
Medical-plan type
Does this card represent Advantage, a Supplement or drug coverage?
All current medical and supplemental cards that apply.
Consultation
What benefit applies to this specialist appointment?
The offered clinician and physical location.
Referral
Does this product require a PCP-directed specialist visit?
The correct referring clinician and document status.
Procedure purpose
How is the recommended indication covered?
Symptoms, screening history and previous findings.
Existing approval
What service, date and provider does the approval cover?
Whether anything changed in the planned care.
Separate charges
How are the facility, anesthesia and pathology handled?
What is included in the estimate and what is not.
HealthSpring benefit questions for GI care
Does Original Medicare acceptance prove HealthSpring Advantage participation?
No. An Advantage network is a separate participation question. Check the offered GI clinician and office under your current HealthSpring product.
Can I use a HealthSpring specialist copay to predict an endoscopy cost?
Not by itself. Ask which procedure benefit applies and whether the facility, anesthesia and pathology create separate charges beyond the office-visit benefit.
Did the brand change automatically cancel a pre-2026 Cigna Medicare approval?
HealthSpring says those approvals remain effective until expiration. Ask the coordinating team to confirm the applicable approval details and whether the planned service has changed.
Should symptoms be disclosed when asking about a Medicare colonoscopy?
Yes. Give the clinician an accurate history, including prior findings and test results. The benefit discussion should use the indication for the care actually recommended.
Can a Medigap policy and an Advantage policy be checked as one product?
No. Clarify which arrangement actually provides your medical coverage. Original Medicare with a Supplement and Medicare Advantage follow different benefit and provider-access routes.
Does a Part D plan pay the medical bill for the GI appointment?
A stand-alone Part D plan concerns prescription drug coverage. Identify the medical coverage for the office visit or procedure rather than relying on the drug card alone.
What should I ask if a procedure has moved to another facility?
Have the new setting and associated providers checked. Ask whether the network review, authorization details or estimate needs updating before relying on earlier information.
Can annual Medicare plan changes affect a test booked for next year?
Yes. Use the product and terms effective on the service date. Tell the office about changed enrollment so benefits and any required approvals can be reviewed for that period.
Let the medical arrangement guide the estimate
Identify the current product, then ask about the clinician’s proposed service. Keep older approvals, procedure changes and associated providers in the discussion.
